Such Pretty Ears

When Lauren was just a baby, I got a lot of flack from our Latino friends because I didn't have Lauren's ears pierced. They would always say, "how will anyone know she is a girl if you don't have her ears pierced?" My response would be the obvious, "because she is wearing pink." It really anyoed me that people would seriously get so upset that I hadn't done this. I have thought a lot about this, and after I got pregnant with Isabella, I decided that getting our little baby's ears pierced is a cultural thing, so why was I getting so upset? I have tried really hard to embrace Cesar's culture and traditions, so why not this one? With that in mind, I decided that if we had a girl, then we would pierce her ears. Cesar, being the good husband, didn't care either way. :)

So, the big day has finally come! Lauren has been waiting to get her ears pierced since before Isabella was born. The deal was, if we had a baby girl, then we would pierce the new baby's ears and Lauren's together. Well, Isabella was born, so Lauren has been asking, and asking, and asking, and asking, and asking, and asking, and asking, and asking, and asking!

Pre-piercing excitement!

Here she is getting ready. She knew it was going to
hurt a bit, but she said she was brave.
(Notice we have 2 people do it at once, so she couldn't back out
and end up with only one ear pierced.)

It really hurt!

Big tears, but such pretty ear rings!
She didn't cry for long, poor girl.

Isabella has no idea what is in store for her.

It was very sad!

Such pretty girls together after their piercing experience.

Chau!

Cesar's nephew, Juan Carlos went back to Lima, Peru last week. We are so sad that he left. He has been here for the past 3 years going to school and working. He has been so much fun and we miss him already. We can't wait to see him next time we go to Lima. He is such a cute kid! We had a going away "All American" dinner as well as a Birthday party. We miss you!

Race for the Cure

Since 2005, the year following Audrey's death, I have been doing the Race for the Cure. Every year it is a new adventure and a great experience. Every year I have great friends and family to walk with, even if it is raining and cold or sunny and warm. I have the greatest friends in the world! This year Angela and Brad walked with us. (Brad is a good stroller pusher, if anyone is looking for one.) We had a great morning! Sam and Cesar ran the 5K and waited patiently for us to finish as the rest of us walked. It is so amazing to see how many people have been affected by breast cancer. It reminds me that my family has not been the only ones affected by this horrible disease.

Isabella Jane

We finally blessed Isabella Jane last week. We were lucky that the day ended up being beautiful, even though it was forecast to rain. We had our family there along with only a few friends. It was so nice. Cesar did the blessing in Spanish. It was a beautiful and touching blessing. Zoila surprised us by making a gorgeous dress for Isabella! It is so beautiful! I was planning on just having Isabella wear Lauren's dress until Zoila showed us the new one she had made for our little sleeping beauty. We are so lucky to have a talented grandma.

Meet Bob

We (or rather, I) have been looking for another dog since Bruno died 8 months ago. Last week, I found this super cute puppy! Isn't he cute? His daddy is a Boston Terrier and his mommy is the ugliest dog I have ever seen in my life! She is a Chihuahua/Rat Terrier. Not a nice looking mix. Anyway, here he is! His name changed 3 times before we settled on Bob. Having a little puppy along with a baby makes me feel kinda like I just had twins! Good thing I can put Bob in his crate and not worry about him for at least 3 hours. For some reason he loves Isabella's bouncy seat.
